The Best Travel Destination?

Hi everyone, i really love traveling. That's why I'm planning to go to Ireland next year. So, what's the best place down there? Could you suggest one for me? Hope you could help me on this one.

Op,

Wow....If you like shopping Galway is the place to do it. I enjoyed Ashford Castle and the town of CONG where the "Quiet Man" was filmed.

That is my 2 cents worth.

One Best Place? How in heaven's name could I only pick one best place in Ireland? Every where you turn, every town you enter is the "Best Place". Galway for its cobbled streets at City Centre and McDonagh's Fish & Chips. Doolin for Fisher Street & McGann's Pub, not to mention sunrise in Dingle Bay. Inis Mor for its Pony Carts, Dun Aengus and the Black Fort, plus its people and their Irish. Clifden for its Connemara charm. Kilkenny for its sense of history and its charming people. New Grange, a marvel of architect from centuries long past. There is a magic to every town in Ireland. I could go on but I believe there is a text limit, LOL. I have not found one bad place, though I have found a bad B&B.

What you would need to clarify your question with is probably an idea of what it is you want to experience. City life (Dublin & Cork), Trad Music (Roundstone, Doolin, Ennis, Clifden, Donegal), Castles & Ruins are all over Ireland.

Sorta like asking us which of our children or grandchildren we love best! My favorite is usually the last place I visited! That said, walking up into the Gap of Dunloe early on a crisp morning when no one else was around was magic. That was our first good experience in three trips and it sticks with me.

optimist,

Welcome to the forum. It seems that you have a lot of homework to do before deciding on where to go in Ireland. Read up and find out what you are really interested in seeing and doing. That and the time you have will determine your itinerary.

Take a look around my website for lots of good info. My Sightseeing page has my Top 10 List. To enter my website click on IrelandYes Index near the top of the page and then on any subject.

Once you have some specific questions, we will all be here to help you out.

I really enjoyed the West. We did a nice little circle of Oughterard, Westport, Rosses Point(Sligo), Donegal and Galway. It gave us a taste of Connemara, Music in Westport, Culture in Yeats Country and Carrowmore, and all the wonderful things Galway has to offer !

I am sure wherever you choose, it will be magical !

Cheers !

Mark,

I agree with you completely. Where ever you decide to stay in Ireland will have its own special charm. It is hard to go wrong when the landscape is littered with history, castles, monasteries, churches, scenery, etc. Even if you throw a dart at a map of Ireland, the choice won't be a bad one.

Mark,

We went in Oct., this year, and are going back in March -- hope to see the difference in the landscape,  and especially to an area we liked - Ballylickey, Bantry, and then Westport, Roundstone and Clifden were some good places to check out, also.
