I just got back from my 10 day trip and hope to tell you all about it soon (had a wonderful time), but we found something in Dublin that I had not known before we left and wished that I did.
No bank in Dublin City will change US $100 bills. There are signs at every bank stating this. They will change $50 bills. If you have to change $100's, you must go to an actual money exchange center, such as Thomas Cooke. This is not a really big deal, but places like Thomas Cooke usually have a slightly less favorable rate, and charge a much higher commission than a bank.
So, plan ahead and take $50's with you, or be prepared to lose a little more money in converting. Outside of Dublin city it was no problem to change $100's.
I have received many helpful tips from this board, and am happy to be able to share one!
Interesting information. I've actually never tried to exchange US $. I've always used ATMs. My wife brought some travelers checks the 1st couple of times, but we gave up on those too.
Thanks for letting everyone know here on the forum. I do have that info in my book and on the "Money" page of my website. They haven't wanted the $100 bills for ages in Ireland because of too many counterfeit bills.
