My Naps of Ireland trip report

We returned Sunday night after one week in Ireland.  The forum helped me so much in planning.  I would see something and think, I read about that on the forum.  We did see a lot but I don't know if you call if the green blur tour.  I call it the Naps of Ireland.
Sunday  Our luggage didn't make it.  Good thing we were staying overnight in Dublin anyway.  No need to dump our luggage at the hotel.... we just started sightseeing.  First Trinity College where we loved the feeling of realizing we finally made it!  Enjoyed the Book of Kells and The Long Room, where Dave took his first nap on a quiet bench while I kept looking.  Then he followed that up with one outside while I was in the gift shop.  We walked to Leo Burdocks and took our fish and chips to the lawn of Christ Church where we both took a nap.  Did I say it was bright and sunny most of the week?  Then walked to St Patricks to enjoy the green space while waiting to get in.  I enjoyed watching a dad play with his beautiful young daughters, age 2, 3, and 4, while Dave, you guessed it, took another nap.  I talked to the family a little and promised to send them pictures of their family.  Did that yesterday.  Enjoyed seeing St. Patricks and then checked into the Mercer Hotel.  Great location, friendly staff.  No clean clothes but at least we could take a shower and go out to Temple Bar for the evening.  Lots of fun.  Heard the Dirty Old Town song for the first time, which we would hear all week and is now on my Ipod.
Monday    Napped at St. Stephens Green while listening to a band (bank holiday), walked to Merrion Square, watched 50,000 women run a mini marathon and then checked back ... luggage made it to our hotel!!!  so took a bus to the airport, got our car, and took off for our driving adventures by 6:30 pm.  Dave did great.  My job was to keep saying "stay to the left". Stopped to eat in Port Laoise (morriseys?) and made it to Cashel by around 10, no reservations, no problem, found Copperfields B & B just outside of the town.  Friendly, clean, everything we could hope for.  We could walk to the Rock from there in the morning.
Tuesday    Loved our tour of the Rock.  Headed to Killarney.  Got tired on the way and napped in the parking lot of a gas station!  Got to Killarney, no reservations, no problem at all.  The Copper Kettle B & B was fine.  It is owned by the Fairview Hotel, so you walk there in the morning for breakfast.  (A few doors down.) Checked in, headed to the park and the Torc Waterfall walk.  Then the drive  through the park to Ladies View and beyond.  A nice rest here on the overlook, not a nap.  Drove on to Kenmare and ate fish and chips.  Back to Killarney by the quicker road.  Too late to go out to pubs.
Wednesday    The Gap of Dunloe is drop dead georgeous.  We couldn't believe what we were seeing.  The weather was perfect. We rested on several nice overlooks.  Walked about halfway in and out instead of taking a jaunting car.  (Can't rest in those.)  How could you improve on that scenery.... green mountains, sheep grazing, still lakes, purple flowers (rhododendrons?) everywhere.  Great naps still to come in Dingle and on the Cliffs of Moher.

Jill,

Welcome home! Love the title of your trip report. Sounds like you were really jet-lagged. Those quick pick-me-ups were just what you needed!

Glad to hear the forum was of help. Now you know why I always have a change of underwear in my carry-on bag. I know from experience that it is a very strange feeling to arrive without luggage.

Looking forward to more of the continuing saga.

Michele
