Hello Michele and All; Wanted to thank you for the wonderful information that was offered to me for our trip to Ireland in August. My son and I had the most fabulous time, travelling approximately 4000km and seeing so much of Ireland we thought we'd burst. Only there for 16 days we managed to cover a lot of territory and get a real feel for the country. We landed in Dublin and headed straight to Newgrange just to get some experience driving and I loved it. Later travelling south towards Kilkenny and then west stopping to see whatever we wanted, castles, vistas, waterfalls etc. Killarney, a favourite place to stay, was our centre for 2 days, a hub of activity and great take off spot for day trips, Valentia Is.,and the Ring of Kerry. Thanks for the info regarding "Loop Head", driving through what seemed like farmer's yards to reach the lighthouse ,that was an experience to remember, especially compared to the Cliffs of Moher. At "Connor Pass" we were on our knees with tears in our eyes, a beautiful sight to behold, especially after the most unbelievable coast road to Dingle. We did go to Roundstone and had a drum made, fabulous, and stayed 3 nights in Ballconneely, golfed on the coast, hiked in Connemara National Park, we were even there for the pony show in Clifden. A drive out the Achill Islands in a storm was breath-taking. Rock of Cashel,Clonmacnoise, Monasterboice, Sligo and the Hill of Tara were highlights of our trip I chose most of our accomodations with Hidden Ireland (booking 2-3 night stays) and our hosts were very helpfull. Heritage card was a must, we saw every castle and abbey we could even accidentally found Strange and Slane (U2 fame). We travelled from Dublin to Dublin via cliffs and mountains and it was wonderful. 5000+ pictures and so many memories, not sure about those speed limits! Great experience, thanks for your suggestions and help. I'm sure Michele thinks we did too much, but this was just what we needed! Shannon & Connor
Welcome back from Ireland! I'm glad you had a good trip with a pace that suited you. I always recommend spending a few nights in one place, which is exactly what you did. We would love to hear about where you stayed if you have the time.
Would it be okay for me to move this post to the "Trip Reports" section of the forum? That way those looking for reports will find it much easier.
Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your trip.
