I traveled Ireland September/October of 2008 with my mom and dad. We started in Dublin, and went everywhere else and finally 16 days later, flew out of Shannon. I drove over 1,200 miles in 13 days (first 3 days in Dublin we didn't have a car), I drove the Dingle Loop, the Ring of Kerry - The Dingle Loop was far better in my opinion, but  I now have bragging rights that I drove the entire Ring!!! I wish I could say it was beautiful but I was to concerned with the roads.. Mom kept saying "oh look, oh, look" and I really didn't see much. Now I want to go back to visit Dublin, which mean no rental!

Ireland is beautiful, the people are amazing and the food was fantastic. Who knew pub grub included mushroom risotto with goat cheese! YUM! And the Guiness...the best beer in the world...in Ireland. It was so fresh and tasty. So was the Smitwicks (I think that's it's name).

Hi Maggie! WELCOME home, folks too, and and glad you all had such a good time. I don't think anyone can go to Ireland, for any length of time, and say they didn't like it biggrin     Looking forward to reading your story --- you covered a lot of ground.   youngka

Maggie,

That mushroom risotto with goat cheese sounds wonderful. The food in Ireland has improved vastly over the decades. But you still get plenty of potatoes with everything!

I can't wait to go back too. Hope you get to return soon.

Yes, that's true! I got one meal with lamb stew (which had potatoes in it) and potatoes on the side... go figure!

I can't wait to go to ireland! It's true, I've heard nothing but good stories, and that it's a beautiful country. As for the food I'm glad it has improved in recent decades. But I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of guiness :p (a bit too bitter for my taste)
I'm also curious to hear a real irish accent- I had a classmate who was irish, but he always refused to speak with his accent, as he said we wouldn't understand a word.

You'll love Ireland, and once you go you'll want to go back. I'm not a fan of USA Guinness and love it from Ireland. It's smooth, fresh and not too bitter (not as bitter as Guinness sold in the US).

trolltania, if you don't like Guinness, try the cider instead... I LOVE the cider! And it's perfectly acceptable to get a pint of that in a pub... Magners is the most popular I found in southern Ireland...
