A week at Adare Manor villas

We arrived early Monday, the 17th, at Shannon and picked up our car from Dan Dooley. We got a brand new Ford Monteo about the size of a Taurus, quite roomy, and very nicely equipped.  I had brought my Tom Tom, and it was a great help except for the construction around Limerick.  We went to the Oakwood Arms for breakfast (the only meal we didn't enjoy), then on the Adare Manor. WOW!  What a gorgeous and first-rate place!  I had requested early check-in and they let us check-in at 10 am! We had a 4 bedroom/4 bath villa that was beautifully appointed (there were two couples).  The kitchen was nicely equipped, and we had internet access as well. There was even a patio with table and chairs.

I cannot over emphasize the beauty of the 840 acres comprising Adare Manor.  The entire property is beautiful.  You can walk through an iron gate and be on the main street of Adare, so you don't have to even take your car.  The town is lovely and has some good shopping and good food.  Our favorite places to eat were The Arches and The Blue Door.  Wonderful food!  We also went to Pat Collins and Sean Collins pubs and also Aunty Lena's pub.  The food at the pubs was good, too!

We went to Dingle even though it was foggy and misty.  We would have enjoyed it more in pretty weather, but we couldn't waste a day, so we went anyway and drove Slea Head.  Even in the bad weather it was beautiful and not too much to do in a day.

We went to Doolin to cross over to the Aran Islands. Went to Inish Mor and took a mini-bus tour.  Loved the drive from Doolin to Killimer to take the Shannon Ferry to Tarbert, and the drive from Tarbert to Adare beside the river was gorgeous!

In mid-week we took a "free day" to do whatever we wanted - just so we wouldn't get worn out!  One day we went to Bunratty, spent more time in Adare.

The villa had a washer and dryer, flat screen tvs in every room, complete kitchen, and good beds!  We could not have asked for a lovelier place to stay.  We liked to get home and walk into Adare for dinner. No driving necessary!

Adare would be a good place to spend even more time than we did.  For golfers, it's paradise!  The Golf Club had incredible food no more expensive than anywhere else.  I recommend it whole heartedly.

A wonderful trip in every way.  I found the deal through travelzoo.com which connected me with Sceptre tours.  There were no hitches in any of the plans, and the weather (after the first two days) was fabulous!!

Thanks for the report.  We almost did this same thing a couple of years ago, as the rate for the Adare Manor was really amazing in the off season.  Had never been there myself, although I have driven through Adare and know it is really a nice village.

It sounds like the property is really worthwhile, so I will look for this offer again and probably jump on it the next time.

Glad you had a wonderful trip there.

Cherry,

Thanks so much for telling us about your trip. You are right that there is plenty to do and see for the week from Adare. I'd love to self-cater at Adare Manor. I had a tour and the villas were first-class. I did self-catering in one of the thatched cottages in town.

What time of year did you go to  Adare?  A manual car for 4 people is assigned to our package.  Will this car accommodate 4 people comfortably?  How much can we plan to spend on gasoline with all the day trips?

Anonymous,

I missed your questions here. For your car, it depends on the type. Perhaps you can find out from the travel agent who sold you the package. If it is not large enough you will most likely have the opportunity to upgrade (at extra cost). You can look at petrol prices here: http://www.aaireland.ie/AA/Motoring-advice/Petrol-Prices.aspx

A typical mid sized petrol car will get you about 70miles on E10, a diesel will get you about 90 miles at current prices, Diesel is cheaper than petrol to start with
