We’re back and can’t wait to return next May. I wanted to thank you for your help in planning our trip (Especially the driving directions!).
I did purchase the Michelin Map that was a great suggestion. I did want to give the folks that read your forum a heads up though. I did not like the stay at Jury’s in Galway, (rooms were not that clean, we moved twice, and they had a lot of foreigners working there that did not speak English) or Kieran’s (smelled the Curry from the kitchen and had to walk up 2 flights of winding stairs to our room, no elevator, but the atmosphere in the pub and the restaurant was great!). Here's a run down:
November 22nd & 23rd Newmarket on Fergus, Dromoland Castle (The best of the best, liked it more than Adare or Ashford)
November 24th &25th Galway, Jury’s Inn (note above)
November 26th & 27th Cashel, Derrynaflan Farmhouse (Still my favorite place to stay in Ireland, did make a side trip to Waterford, ate at the Jade Palace, not worth the money folks!)
November 28th & 29th Kinsale, Kieran’s Folkhouse Inn (note above, maybe good for a younger group)
November 30th through December 2nd Killarney, Lakeland Cottages (Self-catering, great fireplace, we were in a windstorm, all closed up and cozy)
December 3rd Shannon, Comfort Inn (although the restaurant wasn’t open, the bar was and it had great atmosphere, and not expensive at all)
I was delighted to help with your trip and am very glad to hear that you had a good time. Thank you for taking the time to post your trip here. I'm sure everyone will benefit from your observations. And back again in May--you are like many people here--addicted to Ireland!
How did the navigation go? Was your 13-year-old able to help with it?
I often find that hotels are not as clean as might be, probably because the staff is not closely supervised or properly trained. I tend to favor B&Bs and guesthouses for that very reason. With fewer rooms and the eagle-eyes of the owners they are usually much better. The ones listed in my book certainly meet my high standards of cleanliness (I'm a stickler for that). But it's great to hear that Dromoland Castle was a hit with you.
Please feel free to post again as you plan your May trip to Ireland. My favorite month there. I will look forward to helping.

Your 13 year old favorites? Hi Karan, Thanks for the great trip report. Can I ask what your 13 year old liked best? We are going back in April and will visit Kinsale for the first time. Anything we should not miss there? He loved our last trip and the Cliffs of Moher were his favorite. A close second were all the dogs, at least one at most every pub, hotel, castle and even museum we had the pleasure to visit! Diane R.

13 yr olds Hi Diane - Sorry I didn't see your question earlier.
My daughter loved Kinsale, its very "artsy".
You will need to set aside 2-3 hours to see Charles Fort (outer edge of Kinsale) for your son, it's a great place for pictures too, take the tour (it's a bit long (winded) but it really gives you a great insight as to the importance of Kinsale. Stop by Kinsale Crystal (very friendly, small shop, and if it's not busy, you can ask for your own personal demo), Marquis of Kinsale (gold jewelry, you have to be buzzed in, gorgeous jewelry), there's a few silver shops along the street (near Super-Value was the best). And the food is great!
If you come a cross wild goose studios will you let me know where that is, I couldn't find it.
Where else are you going? I know sometime it's hard to keep Twenty’s happy! -Karan (eyps@aol.com)
