Ireland in March

We were in ireland the week before St. Patrick's Day to spend a week with our daughter who is spending a semester at the Univesity of Dublin. The weather was no problem, although the west coast was very windy the first two days. We did find that occasionally a few places were still closed for the off-season, but we felt that was offset by the fact that we had the run of most places we wanted to see.
We began in Shannon and went to Bunratty Castle, then drove up to Doolin. we spent the night at Atlantic Sunset House, a beautful house, view, and family. the only (small) downside, was we needed a cab into town. Had dinner at the Doolin cafe, very nice, and spent the night at O'conners listening to music. Drove the next day to see the cliffs of moher, through Lahinch, beautiful town, and took the ferry to Dingle. The drive through the Peninsula and Slea Head Drive was awesome. Our two days in Dingle were our favorite stop.
On our way to Kenmare, stopped at Inch and drove on the beach, followed the Ring of Kerry to Kenmare ( great Italian restaurant recommended by Michelle). Stayed at Rockcrest House, nice location, beautiful house, small dining area. I recommend the drive to Killarney, Muckross House and Abbey. Stopped at the Rock of Cashel on our way to Kilkenny. Stayed at Alcantra, moderate house, great location, nice family, great food. Again, Langton's was a great suggestion for dinner. Great Pubs and nightlife, the Castle and cathedral are a must see.
That was our first trip and we can't wait to go back.. just have to find out how to coax my daughter into coming back home

Re: Ireland in March

Hi smolens,

Thanks for posting your trip to Ireland and sharing with others. We always enjoy hearing back about how the trips go. I'm glad to hear that you may consider another visit to the Emerald Isle in the future. If you don't get your daughter back soon she may just decide to stay! Thanks again for your recommendations and feedback. I look forward to helping on your next trip.

Michele
