Father/Son trip to the North (Part one)

We just got back from our trip Sunday night. It was truly amazing..

As soon as we landed in Dublin, we headed straight to Belfast where we stayed in Carrickfergus for 2 days.

Our B&B was Drumgart B&B. Eleanor was a wonderful host. She truly treated us like family. Breakfast was wonderful and the conversation was even better.

We explored Belfast.. St. Georges Market, The Crown Liquor Pub, The Duke of York, Titanic Experience, City Hall..

We conquered The Gobbins.. Do this if you get the chance!

We drove the coastal route to PortRush for a one night stay. The drive was breath taking views around every turn..

Our B&B was Beulah Guest House and Helen was a gracious host.

PortRush was a lovely town that I would like to explore more in the future. For this trip, I mainly used it as a convenient home base for other sites.

We visited Bushmills Whiskey Distillery, Giants Causeway, Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge, Mussenden Temple, and Dunluce Castle. All of these sites were awesome.. However, the giants causeway had an affect on me that I didn't expect.

It was almost like a spiritual experience.. a sense of .. this is really something special and significant.. God is present here..  (i know,, probably strange. ... but thats about the only way I can explain it)

We continued on to Letterkenny in County Donegal.

Our B&B was White Park B&B and our hosts were Eugene and Ann. Most of my interactions were with Eugene. He was full of helpful information and served up a wonderful breakfast.

We thoroughly explored the town of Letterkenny. I found a couple pieces of Donegal china that I wanted in the antique shops. I found a wonderful pub/restaurant owned and run by some of my distant relatives! (Coyle's Bar and Restaurant)

We visited the nearby town of Derry/Londonderry. We walked the city walls and explored the shops and pubs. We visited Free Derry corner and the bog site of Bloody Sunday. This was a great town with a lot of history.

part 2 coming soon..
